Chaos Unleashed: Gunfire Erupts Outside Beyond Wonderland Festival in Washington

A violent incident occurred at a campground near the Gorge amphitheater in Washington state on Saturday night, during the ongoing Beyond Wonderland festival. Multiple victims were treated for gunshot wounds, initially leading to reports of an active shooter. However, local authorities later confirmed that they had apprehended a suspect.

At the time of this report, information regarding the condition of the victims has not been released. A scheduled law enforcement press conference at 11:30 p.m. PT is expected to provide further details. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office tweeted that five injuries had been confirmed and the suspect was in custody. The scene has been secured.

Despite the incident, the sheriff’s office announced that the concert scheduled for Saturday, which is taking place a short distance away from the campground, is proceeding without interruption.

The reports of a shooter were received around 8:25 p.m., and law enforcement officers swiftly pursued and apprehended the suspect.

Prior to the suspect’s capture, the sheriff’s office issued an initial tweet warning of an “active shooter” and advising those at the Gorge to seek cover.

The festival’s Twitter account also referred to the incident, stating that the Gorge Gate H campgrounds area was closed due to an incident that had been handled by local authorities. They assured festivalgoers and campers that there was no current danger.

While there are reports that the suspect may have targeted the staff, law enforcement has not yet confirmed this information.

Beyond Wonderland is a two-day EDM festival with a lineup featuring various artists. Many attendees choose to stay at the campground, as hotel options are limited in the surrounding area. The Gorge is approximately a three-hour drive from Seattle and Spokane, the two nearest cities.

Last weekend, the Gorge gained national attention for the “Joni Jam” featuring Joni Mitchell and three Brandi Carlile concerts, all of which took place without incident.

Vehicles and RVs entering the Gorge campground undergo checks by dogs trained to detect explosives. However, concertgoers are not required to pass through metal detectors until they leave the campgrounds and enter the venue.

The Beyond Wonderland festival lineup includes popular artists, and it is currently unknown whether the performances scheduled for the second day will proceed on Sunday.

This is a developing story, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
