Renowned DJ Harvey has regretfully announced that he will not be gracing Ibiza with his presence this year.
Known for his iconic Balearic and Italo Disco parties since the ’80s, including his celebrated Mercury Rising residency at Pikes, DJ Harvey took to Instagram to share the news with his fans. In a heartfelt handwritten letter, he expressed his disappointment, stating, “Pikes Ibiza is the place to be. Unfortunately, due to bureaucratic issues, I won’t be able to make it to the white isle this year.”
However, he assured his loyal supporters that Pikes is in capable hands and promised a triumphant return next year, ensuring that the spirit of Mercury Rising will continue to soar.
In a 2016 interview with Mixmag, DJ Harvey emphasized that Mercury Rising is not about nostalgia but about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in Ibiza and at Pikes. He described it as a continuous evolution of music and experiences.
Although DJ Harvey started his Mercury Rising residency at Pikes in 2014, his connection to the San Antonio hotel runs much deeper. In a 2019 interview, he revealed his longstanding history with Ibiza, recalling his early visits to Pikes in 1990 when he was unaware of its rich heritage. He fondly mentioned the venue’s connection to the iconic British pop group Wham and how it added to the allure of the place. Over the years, he continued to frequent Pikes, eventually collaborating with Dawn Hindle and Andy McKay, who became the custodians of the legendary venue during Tony Pike’s final years.
While DJ Harvey’s absence is disappointing, fans can look forward to his triumphant return to Ibiza and the electric atmosphere of Pikes in the near future.
