Edinburgh’s central district is about to get a new addition with the opening of Umbrella Vinyl, a record store set to open its doors this weekend.
Located on Valleyfield Street, Umbrella Vinyl is slated to begin operations on Saturday, August 5th, starting at 10 AM.
The brainchild of three friends who crossed paths in Hong Kong back in 2015, the store boasts a curated collection of new and pre-owned vinyl, spanning genres such as jazz, blues, soul, Latin, Afrobeat, and dub.
The trio conveyed to Resident Advisor that they are dedicated to providing an unparalleled selection of unique and captivating records from across the globe, catering to various budgets. “We have connections globally to source vinyl, and hope to offer a comfortable, welcoming, inclusive space for everybody who loves music – and even those who don’t,” they added.
Nick, one of the co-founders, initiated a monthly record fair in Hong Kong in 2017 and later established his own label, Vintage Vinyl Hong Kong, in 2018. Meanwhile, Josh and Laura, the other two co-founders, have been hosting a vinyl-exclusive radio show named Vinyl Voyages since 2016. Starting in Hong Kong, the show eventually found a home on the Edinburgh community station EH-FM.
