Behringer Introduces Roland Juno-60 Synthesizer Clone

Behringer, a music tech company, has unveiled its plans to develop a clone of the iconic Roland Juno-60 synthesizer.

The upcoming synthesizer will closely replicate the architecture of the original Roland Juno-60, which was produced by Roland from 1982 to 1984. However, Behringer’s clone will also incorporate MIDI control capabilities.

While the keyboard will be slightly shorter than the original, featuring four octaves instead of five, the clone will enhance polyphony, enabling it to play eight voices simultaneously compared to the original’s six. It will also boast an updated LCD screen interface.

Behringer made the announcement on Facebook, acknowledging the persistent requests from fans to create a replica of this highly sought-after synth. The company revealed a fully functional prototype named the Neptune-80, an 8-voice polyphonic synth featuring an original analog matrix, BBD chorus, and modern user interface elements such as an LCD display and USB/MIDI connectivity.

The Neptune-80 is modeled after the renowned Juno-60 version, known for its exceptional sound quality. Behringer’s product engineer, Ben, who is a self-proclaimed synth enthusiast, couldn’t resist playing the Neptune and expressed enthusiasm for its sound during the announcement.

Originally released in 1982 as the successor to the Juno-6, the Juno-60 introduced sound-saving capabilities, while the Juno-106 in 1984 further expanded the line’s offerings with MIDI compatibility.

The Roland Juno series, renowned for its warm and distinctive sounds, quickly became an integral part of electronic and pop music in the 1980s, 1990s, and beyond. Its timeless sound can be heard in hits such as Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” and A-ha’s “Take On Me,” as well as numerous classic house and techno tracks.

Details regarding pricing and the release date for the Behringer Neptune-80 have yet to be disclosed.
