Bradley Zero and Nathanael Williams Unveil MOKO, a New Hi-Fi Bar in Tottenham

Bradley Zero and Nathanael Williams have revealed their latest venture, MOKO, a new hi-fi bar located in Tottenham.

MOKO will open its doors for the first time on Friday, August 18, following the success of their Peckham-based listening bar, JUMBI, launched in 2022.

Similar to JUMBI, MOKO embraces the concept of a “one-deck hi-fi restaurant meets blues party,” now making its debut in Tottenham, just across the river from Peckham.

Explaining the name, the team shared on social media, “For those in the know, the word MOKO is synonymous with JUMBI. Primarily known as a stilt walker character performed at carnival – the word traces its origins to West Africa. As an Orisha (God) of Retribution, Moko is the Ying to Jumbi’s Yang – a character that exists in Caribbean folklore as a healer, a protector, and a deity, in contrast to Jumbi’s spirit – an archetypal trickster…”

MOKO will take residence on Tottenham’s Markfield Road, where the former nightclub Five Miles had to close its doors in 2020. The cocktail bar-turned-club fell victim to the pandemic in March 2020 and ultimately could not secure its survival later that year.

The venue will feature a solid oak booth designed by “one of London’s leading designers,” Don Heston, housing a “community vinyl library that will regularly receive contributions from our guests and residents.”

“Much like our beloved Jumbi, we’ll be shining a light on the sounds and flavors of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora in a contemporary setting with Audiophile sound courtesy of London-based bespoke audio studio Friendly Pressure,” they added.

Aside from offering free entry, MOKO plans to serve specialty coffee and vegan soul food from the venue’s resident chef during opening hours, every Tuesday to Saturday from 12:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
