Sofia Kourtesis Announces Debut Album ‘Madres’ – A Sentimental Tribute

Electronic music producer Sofia Kourtesis has unveiled the much-anticipated details of her debut album, titled ‘Madres’, scheduled to release on October 27 through Ninja Tune.

‘Madres’ holds deep sentimental value as it is dedicated to the memory of Kourtesis’ mother, as well as the renowned neurosurgeon Peter Vajkoczy, who played a pivotal role in saving her mother’s life.

The album comprises ten tracks, including some recently released singles such as ‘Estación Esperanza’ and the brand new track, ‘Si Te Portas Bonito’, which was released today.

The title track, ‘Madres’, previously released earlier this year, carries a profound message that embraces motherhood in all forms, celebrating not only Kourtesis’ mother but also the entire LGBTQIA+ community who serve as mothers to their communities.

The album also pays tribute to Peter Vajkoczy, whose presence is felt in the liner notes. As a renowned brain surgeon, Vajkoczy performed a life-saving operation on Kourtesis’ mother, who was diagnosed with cancer after the loss of her father.

During the difficult times, Sofia Kourtesis frequently returned to Peru from touring to be with her mother, who was on the verge of losing her battle with cancer. However, thanks to the intervention of Vajkoczy, her mother made a remarkable recovery and is now living near her daughter in Berlin.

The touching connection between the producer and the neurosurgeon even led to Kourtesis dedicating a track to him. Moved by the gesture, Vajkoczy agreed to perform the surgery, and he is now an integral part of Kourtesis’ family, sharing a deep passion for music.

‘Madres’ promises to be an emotionally charged and captivating album, filled with love, appreciation, and the celebration of life. With a diverse tracklist, the album is set to be a powerful journey through Sofia Kourtesis’ personal experiences and musical artistry.
